Antiques Roadshow guest shocked as mum's necklace valued at £1000s

A guest on Antiques Roadshow was shocked when her mum's necklace was valued at £20,000.

She explained how she had inherited the necklace from her mum who was given the necklace by her mum [the guest's nan].

The guest said she didn't know whether the necklace came from England, The Netherlands or Belgium as her grandad was Dutch.

Expert Joanna Hardy thought the necklace was most likely to have been made in The Netherlands after looking at the stones.

She believed the diamonds were cut somewhere between 1915 and 1920.

The expert loved the necklace (BBC)

Joanna explained how she priced the diamonds using a piece of white card, as the price decreases the more yellow there is in the stone.

The guests' stones were only slightly yellow and had few internal flaws.

Giving her valuation, Joanna said: "Well I would say that in the auction, you're going to be in the region of £20,000 to £25,000."

The guest said: "Wow, I'm quite gobsmacked."

The high price also earned a gasp from the crowd.

Joanna said: "Thank you so much for bringing this beautiful jewel in to show me."
