Anti-violence demonstration ends after physical fight breaks out amongst peace activists

An anti-violence rally has ended in a physical fight between anti-violence activists, it has been reported.

The demonstration took place on the steps of Newark City Hall in New Jersey on Wednesday. Activists were marching to protest a recent spate of shootings in the city and calling for non-violent resolution to issues. The demonstration was held in memory of three brothers who were all killed in separate incidents within the city.

However, the event reportedly descended into an intense skirmish between two men present after they began heckling each other and one subsequently grabbed the other by the throat, NJ.com reports.

Speaking after the incident, one of the organisers told NJ.com that he hoped the “group’s message would not be lost due to the physical altercation.”

The incident is now being investigated by Newark Police Department.
