Anti-vaxxers outside school told to 'stay away from our children'

Anti-vaxxers were warned to “stay away from our children” after reports of adults handing out letters outside a high school.

Councillor Andrea Wall said she was “furious” and “not best pleased” with people targeting children with “anti vaccination stuff” outside Wade Deacon on Birchfield Road, Widnes.

In two separate Facebook posts last night, on her official and personal-but-public pages, she slated those responsible and said vaccinations for children over the age of 12 was a decision for their parents or guardians.

Cllr Wall, Labour, Highfield Ward, accused them of trying “to scare children as they’re coming home from school” and urged anti-vaxxers to take their “nonsense” elsewhere.

She said: “Not best pleased with children coming home from school being targeted with anti vaccination stuff, in fact I am furious.

“These people standing outside of schools have no business deciding they know better than parents or are somehow better informed.

“My message to them is simple - keep your nose out, we as parents of our own children will decide on vaccination if the time comes.

“Stay away from our children, they've had enough to deal with in the last 16 months, without having leaflets forced on them at school gates.

“I'm going to my son's school gates until the end of term to tell any individuals this in person, as I am not putting up with it.”
She added: “These people have no rights to interfere with that and try to scare children as they're coming home from school.

“Personally I want their nonsense nowhere near my child and have raised concerns both as a parent and a councillor for the area.”

One social media user responding in the comments branded the anti-vaxxers' behaviour "vile" while another said she was "really cross" about the letters and called them "despicable".

Another said they "disagree with approaching children like this" and said "everyone has the right to information around vaccines", adding they had struggled to find a "balanced information site for both sides".

In response, one commenter said: "People have the right to seek their own information & sources, these people have no business whatsoever passing anything to children, that’s outrageous & disgraceful. My child, my decision. It’s all very well pushing one sided information but it is just that, one side. Challenge your own opinions."

Cllr Wall included details of drop-in Covid-19 vaccination clinics taking place at DCBL Stadium on Lowerhouse Lane, Widnes, this week in her official post.
