Anti-vaccine protesters target home shared by Tanaiste Leo Varadkar and partner for a third time

A group of protesters gathered outside the home of Tanaiste Leo Varadkar for the third time on Thursday.

The small gathering arrived outside the Dublin 8 home that the Fine Gael leader shares with his partner Matt Barrett on Thursday evening.

Some people held placards as they protested against Covid restrictions and vaccines.

In one photo posted online, understood to have been taken outside the Tanaiste's home, a group of gardai are seen protecting Mr Varadkar's door.

However, he is currently not even in Ireland, as he is attending an EU Summit in Brussels.

The group had earlier gathered outside Leinster House, which led to two men being arrested after two gardai were assaulted.

Gardai said that "persons attending this protest moved to outside a private residence in the Dublin 8 area" later on Thursday afternoon.

A garda spokesperson said this protest ended peacefully at around 6.30pm with no further incident.

It comes after protestors held a rally outside Mr Varadkar's house twice last month.

On the first occasion, gardai were called to break up a protest on September 19 outside his home in Dublin.

Protestors gathered outside the house and proceeded to make unfounded allegations about his sexual orientation.

In a video posted online, people among the small group gathered outside his Dublin home were heard shouting homophobic remarks and calling Mr Varadkar a "treasonous snake".

Gardai were also alerted to this protest and attended the scene.

Protestors gathered outside the residence for a second time a week later with gardai called to the scene again.

Video footage circulating online showed a number of people standing outside the politician's home with some carrying signs.

'Freedom of speech, freedom of choice' was among some of the messages displayed on the placards.
