Anti-vaccine passport protesters try to storm BBC's old headquarters

Shocking scenes have unfolded at the BBC's old headquarters as anti-vaccine passport protesters try to storm the building.

Pictures show a large police presence outside the Studioworks White City building trying to keep a big crowd of demonstrators who were chanting and shouting at bay, the Mirror reports.

They are said to be representing the unofficial group Official Voice - who are also reportedly against jabs for children.

The BBC still has three studios at the White City site but is now mainly based at Portland Place and in Stratford - since 2013.

Vlogger Paul Brown, who uploaded a video of the scene on Twitter, said: "Official Voice protesters try storming the BBC studios at White City but them come up against a heavy police presence - they are protesting against vaccine passports and vaccine for kids."

It comes as the government continues to mull over the prospect of vaccine passports.

Last month, the NHS app was upgraded so it can be used as a vaccine passport in the UK as well as abroad.

A section appeared late last month on the app for "domestic" use in recent days, allowing people to get a NHS Covid Pass through testing, full vaccination, natural immunity or an exemption.

It states: “You may need to show your NHS Covid Pass at places that have chosen to use the service”.

Meanwhile, earlier this month Downing Street announced those aged 16 and 17 would be invited to get jabbed.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said older teenagers should get inoculated in a move that will see a further 1.4 million young people eligible for the jab.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid accepted the JCVI recommendation and has asked the NHS to prepare to start giving first doses to youngsters "as soon as possible."

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "We are aware of a group of demonstrators who, having set off from Shepherds Bush Green shortly after 13:00hrs, are now gathered outside a commercial premises in Wood Lane, White City.

"There have been no arrests but officers are in attendance and will continue to monitor the situation."

A BBC spokesperson said: "We don’t comment on security matters."
