Anti-racist group back Airdrie star Rico Quitongo after fan storm

Players from Glasgow University and Forth Wanderers showed support for Airdrie’s Rico Quitongo ahead of their West of Scotland League Conference A clash at New Broomfield on Saturday.

Quitongo was allegedly racially abused by a Diamonds fan at a recent game, and Show Racism the Red Card campaign manager Jordan Allison – who plays for Forth – feels the League One club could do more to support him.

He set up the event on Saturday ahead of the 1-1 draw, where players on both sides trained in Show Racism the Red Card t-shirts.

It’s a gesture that was appreciated by Rico, who Tweeted: “Thank you for the support, together we are all stronger.”

Forth Wanderers midfielder Jordan Lynch said: “When we heard what happened to Rico, we were all sickened.

"Both teams wanted to do something to support Rico, and when we got in touch he was delighted.

"We hope by coming together in support of him, it will show that everyone is behind him, and send a strong message that racism should never be tolerated in Scottish football.”
