Newcastle United fan group Wor Flags will put on an anti-racism display at St James' Park on Sunday as the Magpies take on Manchester City. Teaming up with Show Racism The Red Card, the display will be on show in the East Stand moments before kick-off.
Wor Flags want to show their support in the fight against racism with Premier League players opting to only take the knee on certain occasions this season. Top flight captains agreed to scale back the gesture before the start of 2022/23 campaign.
Players took the knee ahead of the season-opening fixtures and will do so during the annual 'No Room for Racism' campaigns in October and March. Teams will also adopt the protest stance on Boxing Day, and for the final league match of the season, as well as the finals of the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.

Ged Grebby, the CEO of Show Racism The Red Card, has heaped praise on the planned Wor Flags’ display. “Show Racism the Red Card have always believed that fans have a central role in the fight against racism," he said. "Indeed SRTRC was established in January 1996 by NUFC fans. We are proud that Wor Flags are supporting our antiracism work and hope other supporters will take up this great initiative.”
The Premier League captains said at the start of the season: “We have decided to select significant moments to take the knee during the season to highlight our unity against all forms of racism and in so doing we continue to show solidarity for a common cause.
"We remain resolutely committed to eradicate racial prejudice, and to bring about an inclusive society with respect and equal opportunities for all.”
Some pundits and fans have taken issue with the decision to reduce the measure. However, Newcastle forward Callum Wilson is in favour of not taking the knee before every single game.
Wilson told the Footballer's Football Podcast : "For me, as part of the leadership group at Newcastle, we had this discussion and spoke about it and what we are going to do going forward. There were mixed opinions much like my own.
"I feel we did it for a period of time and it got recognition and people were asking questions about it and you start feeling like you're making progress and then people start doing their own thing, they have their own opinions about it and decide not to do it. So it's either we all do it or we don't do it at all.
"When you've got people that, rightly so, have their own opinion and don't take the knee, they stand up and do different things. I just think that brings more light onto the situation than actually taking the knee and what your doing it for.
