AT least 1000 anti-racism campaigners held a rally in Glasgow to counter a meeting of the far-right group Unite the Clans
The protest at Glasgow Green came in the face of anti-immigration disorder that has spread across the city in recent weeks.
A large police presence was in the area, with around 10 police vans and officers in horse back in attendance.
Violence quickly erupting later during the demonstrations, with Police Scotland confirming multiple arrests were made.
The counter-demonstration had been organised by a coalition of groups including Stand Up To Racism (SUTR) and Women Against The Far Right, and supported by groups like the University College Union (UCU) and Refuweegee.
Activists were seen surrounding the Unite the Clans meeting, with police keeping the groups separated.
Following the rally, those with Unite the Clans headed towards the city centre where they continue to clash with police.
Buses have been diverted and the public has been asked to avoid the area.
Who are Unite the Clans?
Unite the Clans first drew major attention in March when it staged a demonstration outside the Scottish Parliament, urging "patriots" to gather from across the country, which was met by around 1000 counter-protesters.
The group has since held further rallies and described its Glasgow demonstration as "peaceful," inviting affiliated groups from Perth, Dundee, Edinburgh, Falkirk and elsewhere, as well as groups from England, to join it.
Stand Up to Racism has described UTC as a fascist organisation seeking to "build a street movement" opposed to migrant, LGBT+, women's and Palestinian rights, and says the group invited Britain First to its Glasgow rally.
Prominent figures within the group have previously voiced support for Hitler, and other attendees linked to their events include a member of Patriotic Alternative photographed with a banner bearing the neo-Nazi "Fourteen Words" slogan.
