Anti-Nicola Sturgeon graffiti scrawled under Kingston Bridge in Glasgow

Anti-Nicola Sturgeon graffiti has appeared in Glasgow overnight as new restrictions come into force in the city and across central Scotland to try and stem the sharp rise in number of coronavirus cases.

The graffiti, scrawled on to a pillar underneath the Kingston Bridge in the Anderston area, reads 'Sturgeon Lied'.

A wall was also spraypainted nearby with the words 'Jeane Freeman Granny Killer' directed at Scotland's Health Secretary.

Further measures to reduce the spread of coronavirus are to come into effect today and tomorrow in Glasgow as Scotland recorded more than 1,000 new positive test results in a single day yesterday.

Restrictions on licensed premises (with all pubs and restaurants to close except for takeaways) will come into force from 6pm, with all other restrictions applying from 00:01 tomorrow.

These include a temporary ban on group exercise classes for indoor gyms, sports courts and contact sports or training and outdoor live events, as well as the closure of snooker/pool halls, indoor bowling, casinos and bingo halls.

Additionally, from this weekend, shops across Scotland are asked to return to two metres physical distancing and reintroduce the mitigations they put in place earlier in the pandemic, including one-way systems.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
