Anti-lockdown protest held at Glasgow Green over coronavirus restrictions

An anti-lockdown protest has been held at Glasgow Green in a demonstration over coronavirus restrictions.

Chants of 'freedom' were heard as the crowd held banners opposing lockdown measures.

Police Scotland were in attendance during the demonstrations.

Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour leader Jeremy, was due to be one of the main speakers at the rally but was detained while at a similar protest in Sheffield yesterday.

Anti-5G protester Mark Steele, Dr Kevin Corbett and Allegedly Dave were also listed as speakers at the event.

It was reported that at around 2pm the group started to march towards George Square chanting "face masks are a hoax".

The protest follows a large protest in Edinburgh where hundreds of "anti-maskers" gathered.

At Saturday's event around 600 people descended on Holyrood, with signs seen calling for 'freedom of choice' on wearing the coverings, while some questioned the efficiency of the masks.

Earlier today, the Scottish Government announced 208 new coronavirus cases had been recorded in Scotland in the past 24 hours - the highest daily total since May - with 92 in the the Greater Glasgow and Clyde region.
