Anti-King Charles graffiti removed from road signs day before coronation

Anti-King Charles graffiti has been seen on road signs - in what is believed to be a protest against the monarch. The graffiti was sprayed onto 13 different road signs on Friday, May 5 the day before the monarch's coronation.

The explicit graffiti, at Gunby Roundabout between Spilsby and Skegness, has since been cleared up by a crew from Lincolnshire County Council. Cllr Richard Davies, the executive member for highways at the council, said early on Friday afternoon: "What an awful thing for someone to have done in our county.

"These shocking actions of vandalism are not welcome and will not be tolerated. We will clean the signs as quickly as we can so as not to have this atrocious blot on what will be a huge weekend for many Lincolnshire people, and those travelling through our county," he said, reports Lincolnshire Live.

The councillor stated that it was difficult to understand why someone would do such a thing, and that their actions had cost the county council thousands of pounds, roughly the same amount it would cost to fill in 65 potholes. The Grantham councillor added: "We cannot leave these signs in this condition.

"Families with young children don’t want to see this sort of thing and nor should they have to. Road users in general also need the signs to be clear and readable for obvious reasons."

He continued: "At a time where our road maintenance funds have been hugely cut and pothole pounds are in such short supply, this is yet another hit to the roads in the area."

The coronation of King Charles III will be the first time a new monarch is crowned in more than 70 years. It will be celebrated by Brits up and down the county in the form of thousands of street parties as well as being commemorated by a six-minute flypast starring the Red Arrows.
