NEW DELHI: Information and broadcasting minister Anurag Thakur on Monday termed "anti-India and "absurd" the remark by PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti referring to the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan to call upon the Centre to restore the special status of J&K.
Thakur said both J&K and Ladakh are on the path of development and what has been done will not be changed, a reality the parties of Kashmir should understand. "PDP and its allies have been upset since their exit from power and abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution that accorded special status to Jammu & Kashmir," Thakur said.
The minister said PDP and its leaders should understand that whatever happened in the past will not be repeated. "Both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are on the path of development and will continue to thrive under the BJP rule. They will become model states of India," the minister said.
In her address to PDP workers in south Kashmir's Kulgam district last Saturday, Mehbooba asked the Centre to take a lesson out of Afghanistan where the Taliban seized power, and urged the government to hold dialogue on Jammu & Kashmir for return of its special status. The former CM warned the Centre "to not test us" and asked the government to "mend its ways, understand the situation, and see what is happening in your neighbourhood."
