The Supreme Court on Thursday declined to grant bail to activist Akhil Gogoi, who is in custody for his alleged role in the violent anti-CAA protests in Assam.

“Having heard learned senior counsel for the petitioner and carefully perusing the material placed on record, we are not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner at this stage. The special leave petition is, accordingly, dismissed,” a Bench headed by Justice N.V. Ramana observed in an order.

Mr. Gogoi has challenged a January 7 order of the Gauhati High Court, rejecting his plea for bail in a case related to his alleged role in the violent protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) law.
