Anthropic's AI chatbot Claude experienced a widespread outage on Wednesday, leaving many users unable to access the service as reports of disruptions surged across social media.

According to Downdetector, a platform that tracks online service outages through user-submitted reports, complaints spiked sharply, indicating that the issue affected a large number of Claude users. The disruption appeared to impact multiple versions of Anthropic's latest Claude models.
Anthropic identifies cause, works to restore service
In an update posted on its status page, Anthropic said it had identified the cause of the elevated error rates and was working to restore normal service.
"We have identified the cause of elevated errors on requests to Claude Mythos 5, Claude Fable 5, Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and are working on a fix. We will provide an update as soon as possible," the company said.
Anthropic added that its engineering teams were continuing to work on resolving the issue, though it did not provide a timeline for when services would be fully restored.
Users report loading errors and failed responses
As the outage continued, users reported being unable to generate responses from Claude, with many encountering loading errors after submitting prompts.
When users attempted to interact with the chatbot, Claude reportedly displayed the error message: "This response didn't load."
Anthropic has not disclosed the specific technical cause behind the elevated error rates or whether the outage was linked to any underlying infrastructure issues.
Social media reacts to Claude disruption
The outage quickly became a trending topic on X, where users shared their frustration over the service disruption.
One user posted, "Claude is officially down since the past hour 😭 anyone still with a working Claude?"
Another joked, "Claude is down. And suddenly the vibe coders are feeling pre-Friday vibes."
A third user speculated about the chatbot's recent performance, writing, "Is everyone noticing Claude becoming a bit dumb for the past few days? Or is it only me? I am using Opus 4.6 btw - not sure if they are doing it on purpose to upsell Fable but there has been some real downgrade over the past week."
The company has yet to share further details on the root cause of the outage or when all Claude services will be fully restored.
