Anthony Yarde continued his rise in the light-heavyweight division with a fourth round stoppage of Argentine Walter Gabriel Sequeria at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday.

It took the 27-year-old prospect’s record to 17 straight victories – with a collision with fellow rising star Joshua Batsui beginning to take shape.

Ilford-based Yarde dropped Sequeria to the canvas before the fight was halted after two minutes and 13 seconds of the fourth round by referee Phil Edwards.

Yarde has finished all but one of his opponents inside the distance.

But he says he is prepared to wait for a world title shot while he continues to learn his business.

He said after his victory in Essex: “I am still learning. But I landed the shots I needed to win the fight and it is another victory.

“I had limited amateur experience but there is no pressure which is why we are working so hard in the gym every day.”

Croydon’s Olympic bronze medallist Batsui has recorded eight straight wins since turning professional and he could be headed for a major domestic showdown with Yarde next year.
