Anthony Yarde confirms his grandmother's death from coronavirus days after father dies with Covid-19

Boxer Anthony Yarde has announced the death of his grandmother due to coronavirus just days after his father also died as a result of the illness.

The London light-heavyweight confirmed the passing of his father - who he said had been fit with no underlying health issues - on Sunday and urged people to stay at home and stop risking the further spread of Covid-19.

Yarde returned to social media on Friday evening with the tragic news that his Nan had also died with the virus and repeated his plea for people to suspend any cynicism they might have regarding coronavirus and adhere to the lockdown measures to avoid risking further fatalities.

"We have now lost my Nanna to this virus," he wrote. "My Dad and his mother have passed days apart.

"It's serious! People are still going out when they don't need to.

"I know there's a lot of opinions about Covid-19 and I have mine but I just know opinions ain't worth risking your life and others. Just stay home.

"RIP Dad, 27.3.20. RIP Nana, 2.4.20. My heart really goes out to all the people suffering in different ways."

Yarde's promoter Frank Warren said: "We are extremely sad to learn that Anthony Yarde has now lost his Nan to the Coronavirus.

"We can’t begin to imagine what Anthony and his family are going through and our sincere condolences go out to them.

"Please listen to his heartfelt personal plea, stay at home to save lives."
