Anthony Stokes to play in behind-closed-doors game for Shamrock Rovers

Anthony Stokes will play for Shamrock Rovers tonight in a behind-closed-doors clash with Cabinteely.

The Hoops are considering a move for the former Republic of Ireland and Celtic striker who has been without a club since September.

Stokes, 32, left Livingston without playing a game having had spells in Iran - twice - Turkey and Greece.

The well-travelled front man spent six years with Celtic between 2010 and 2016 but has been unable to settle since then after spells abroad and with Blackburn and Hibs.

New Rovers signing Richie Towell - who is eligible for league duty from July 1 - is also due to play in tonight’s clash between a Rovers XI and Cabinteely XI in Tallaght.
