Anthony Stokes has been suspended by Celtic for two weeks after complaining on Twitter about not making the team.

The forward was left out of the Premiership visit to Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Sunday and responded by tweeting: “Buzzing to be brought all the way up to Inverness with the team to sit in the stands today, lovely weather for it too...”

Stokes tweets.

He then followed up by saying: “Who gives a fuck about wages when your not playing games! It’s all about playing and contributing not picking up a wage.”

Then follows up.

Celtic won the game 3-1 with their manager Ronny Deila saying of Stokes’ remarks: “That showed a lack of respect to the other boys. We will handle that inside. We will see what we will do. It is not the best way to behave for your team-mates.”

Stokes later apologised on Twitter, saying: “Sorry for earlier Tweet. Hope fans can appreciate my frustration, heat of the moment.”

Stokes apologises.

Stokes, who is out of contract at the end of the season, moved to Celtic from Hibernian in 2010. He has started just one league game this season for the champions back in August.
