Anthony Stokes set for shock Livingston exit as striker agrees to tear up contract without kicking a ball

Anthony Stokes is set to leave Livingston without kicking a ball, as the striker expresses concern over training on an artificial pitch.

The former Celtic and Hibs striker signed for Gary Holt 's side last month but Record Sport understands he has agreed a mutual termination of his contract.

The 32-year-old will walk away from his season-long deal, despite never kicking a ball in a competitive game for Livi.

The former Republic of Ireland star has been building up his fitness since he signed, having managed just nine appearances for Demirspor and Persepolis last season.

Stokes, however, isn’t keen on training every day on an artificial surface at the Tony Macaroni Arena, and that has been a major factor in his shock departure.

Stokes has had something of a nomadic career since he left Hibs in 2018.

The 32-year-old striker has had spells in Greece with Apollon Smyrnis, as well as spending time with Tractor and Persepolis in Iran and Adana Demirspor in Turkey.

Stokes has nothing lined up but is now on the lookout for a new club.

He has been capped nine times by his country without scoring, with his last international appearance coming in 2014.
