Anthony Pettis says there’s ‘no beef’ with Ben Askren after Jorge Masvidal praise

Anthony Pettis was caught in some potential drama regarding a comment he made on one of the episodes of “UFC Embedded” leading up to his UFC 241 fight with Nate Diaz.

Pettis was seen speaking to Jorge Masvidal’s good friend, Yoel Romero, and praising Masvidal for his brutal knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239.

With Askren and Pettis being longtime training partners at Roufusport, critics called out Pettis for not being loyal to his teammate. The always controversial Dillon Danis took to Twitter to bring the comment to light and tagged Askren in tweet.

Askren responded, but was he being sarcastic? Maybe, but calling it “unacceptable” and saying “I don’t need fake friends” suggested that he wasn’t too amused.

When asked if he squashed his beef with Askren in the comments section of an Instagram post, Pettis simply replied “no beef with Askren.”

Pettis also proceeded to justify the comment he made regarding Askren, saying that he was just happy for Masvidal, who he also considers a friend.

“Wasn’t happy he got knocked out,” Pettis said. “Jorge is my boy, and I was happy for him. This is the fight game. (Expletive) happens. Ben is a monster. He will be back.”

Pettis lost to Diaz on Saturday via unanimous decision in a valiant effort. Pettis suffered a broken foot early in Round 2 and toughed it out for the remainder of the fight.
