Anthony Muñoz says Texans offensive line needs to work on technique

Hall of Fame offensive lineman Anthony Muñoz says the Houston Texans offensive linemen need to work on their technique.

As the last month before training camp creeps by, the former Cincinnati Bengal advises tackles Tytus Howard, Max Scharping, and Julién Davenport to work on their footwork.

“That’s something as an offensive lineman that you don’t need someone across from you, someone that’s constantly rushing,” Muñoz told Texans Radio. “But that’s something you can work on, over and over and over.”

The Texans coaches are pleased with the way Howard and Scharping have gone against defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel’s defense, even in the absence of full contact, the ultimate indicator of performance in the trenches.

For Muñoz, what will help Davenport, Scharping, and Howard in training camp is what they are able to accomplish on their own time.

“That’s something that I really learned and that I did my whole career, even in the offseason, when I was running and lifting,” said Muñoz. “I tried every day to work on technique. Footwork, and being in the right position. Therefore, it comes naturally.”
