Anthony Martial wants more 'ugly' Man Utd goals like Cristiano Ronaldo

Anthony Martial wants to score more 'ugly' goals in order to fulfil his attacking potential at Manchester United.

Martial, who looks a player reborn under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's guidance, has become a key man for United after struggling to convince former Red Devils manager Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho was prepared to sell Martial in the summer, but the French forward has just signed a new five-year contract at United in the wake his fine form following Mourinho's sacking in December.

Martial is now flourishing in Solskjaer’s free-flowing system, as was evident in his wonderful solo goal against Fulham on Saturday.

The nature of his run and finish earned comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo’s similar strike at Craven Cottage in 2007 – and Solskjaer has challenged the 23-year-old to prove he can be as prolific as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Asked about the importance of scoring more 'ugly' goals, Martial - speaking before United's last-16 Champions League tie against PSG - replied: "Yes it is true [Solskjaer] has often said that to me and even previous managers have said that, you have to work on that.

"If I do manage to do that, get beyond the defence, I think I will score more goals.

"He is asking me to attack more. That is my job after all. To make the difference to be more decisive.

"Things are working out well for the other attackers and I hope we can continue to be as effective."
