Anthony Martial 'training separately' after Man Utd star suffers potential back injury

Anthony Martial is reportedly training away from the rest of the France squad after suffering a back complaint in the win over Portugal.

Manchester United forward Martial played 78 minutes as Les Bleus emerged 1-0 victors from their Nations League clash in Lisbon.

France boss Didier Deschamps praised the 24-year-old's "very promising" performance and made no mention of an injury during his post-match interview.

But RMC Sport claims Martial trained on his own on Monday and he is considered a doubt for Tuesday night's tie with Sweden.

The French outlet reports: "Anthony Martial has some back problems, he will train separately this evening at the Stade de France."

Martial has won 25 caps for France but has only scored one goal, which came in 2016, while he is yet to start firing for United this season.

His best performances have come in the Champions League and is he is yet to score in the Premier League, having missed three games for his early red card in the 6-1 drubbing by Tottenham.

Deschamps left Martial out of the France squad which triumphed at the 2018 World Cup, but he insists the player has a bright future with the national team.

“He lacked in finishing - it seemed a little bit clumsy," Deschamps told TF1 after the victory over Portugal. "But sincerely, having watched the moments again, it came down to small margins.

"He is part of the group of players who have not been here for a long period of time.

"But he has changed during this period, on the pitch and off of it. With years, he has also gained maturity. He is much more determined - he already had quality. Things are more concrete.

"I feel a bit unfortunate for him because he was not rewarded with a goal, but he is very promising.”
