Anthony Martial sends another message to Manchester United manager Solskjaer

Anthony Martial's fine form continued on his first France start in two-and-a-half years as they beat Croatia 4-2 in the Nations League.

Martial was recalled to the France squad for the first time since March 2018 and earned a penalty in Saturday's win at Sweden before creating two goals against France's World Cup final opponents.

The 24-year-old created Antoine Griezmann's equaliser and Martial should have claimed only his second international goal but prodded the ball against the post and it deflected in off goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic.

Martial started in an experimental attacking trident with Griezmann and Wissam Ben Yedder he admitted took some getting used to before two goals in the last minutes of the first-half put France ahead.

"It's been a long time since I played for France and it was important to me to have a good match," Martial told  TF1 . "I managed to score and provide an assist. We won and I'm very happy.

"It was a bit complicated in the front three at the start because we didn't have the ball, but as soon as we managed to combine we knew how to put them in danger.

"The victory was great. We scored points and that's important."

None of United's England representatives were involved in their drab draw with Denmark as coach Gareth Southgate once again selected the gaffe-prone Jordan Pickford over Dean Henderson and Nick Pope.

Mason Greenwood flew home after he breached COVID-19 protocol in Reykjavik, Marcus Rashford withdrew from the squad through injury and Harry Maguire was removed from Southgate's original selection after a hearing in the Greek island of Syros found him guilty of all charges following an altercation in Mykonos. Maguire's legal team has launched an appeal that nullifies the initial conviction.

United target Jadon Sancho was replaced by Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount after an hour in Copenhagen.

Bruno Fernandes played the full 90 minutes of Portugal's 2-0 win over Sweden on a historic night for Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted his 100th and 101st international goals. Victor Lindelof did not play.
