Anthony Martial’s agent has cast further doubt on his client’s future at Manchester United, insisting a new long-term deal is ‘nowhere near’ being signed.

United have taken the option to extend Martial’s current contract by one year, tying the Frenchman to Old Trafford until 2020. But talks over a new five-year contract have so far proved fruitless.

It is understood Martial is keen to remain at Old Trafford but his agent Philippe Lanboley has now revealed the club have much to do if they want to keep the player in the long-term.

“I am very pessimistic about discussions going positively,” Lamboley told RMC Sport.

“They‘ve already made several offers that come nowhere near to what we expect.”

Jose Mourinho was prepared to sell Martial in the summer but the club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was determined to hold onto the forward, believing he will have a key role to play at the club in years to come.

Arsenal have a long-standing interest in Martial that dates back to before his move to United and Arsene Wenger tried to secure the forward as part of a swap deal with Alexis Sanchez that eventually took Henrikh Mkhitaryan to the Emirates last January.

Tottenham have also held interest in the Frenchman who has scored eight goals in all competitions this season.
