Anthony Martial national team decision questioned by Manchester United captain Ashley Young

Manchester United captain Ashley Young has questioned Didier Deschamps' decision to leave Anthony Martial out of the latest France squad again.

Martial has not played for his country since 2018 and missed out on a call up for the latest round of international fixtures where France play Moldova and Albania and Young thinks it's an error.

Since returning from injury Martial has reinvigorated United's attack and the club captain believes he should have been given an international call up off the back of his recent form.

"The way Anthony plays with Marcus (Rashford) is unplayable at times. Anthony was a big miss when he was injured," Young said. "You can see he is a natural goalscorer. For me I think France are missing out - I can't understand why he's not in their squad. That is up to them but he can only get better."

Young is suspended for United's clash against Brighton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon which could give a chance for teenage full-back Brandon Williams to be handed his first league start. And Young has been impressed with what he's seen from the 19-year-old this season.

"Every time he's pulled on a first-team shirt, he has been brilliant,' Young said. 'He wants to learn and listen. I am sure if he is called upon he will put in another very good performance."

United scored more than one goal at home for the first time since the opening day in the 3-0 win over FK Partizan on Thursday and Young has been impressed with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's front line.

"Some of the combinations from the boys up front was unbelievable for us watching at the back," he said. "At times this season, we've blown teams away with our attacking. When you watch us going forward you think it is only going to be a matter of time (to score).

"As a captain, players will come to you and want to talk. It is a different era to when I was coming through but I am the same way and will never change, whether others think I am too hard or not too hard. Everyone wants the best for each other. The youngsters have been at Man United and have the DNA. They know what it takes."
