Anthony Martial injury latest: Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho plays down fears after forward limps out

Jose Mourinho has allayed concerns over Anthony Martial after the Manchester United winger limped out of the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Martial pulled up after 63 minutes at Old Trafford after scoring his eighth goal of the season.

But Mourinho revealed the Frenchman was withdrawn as a precautionary measure, adding: “He doesn’t think it was an injury – it was feeling tight.”

With Alexis Sanchez ruled out until the New Year with a torn hamstring, Mourinho will be desperate to have Martial fit over the festive period.

The 23-year-old, who is in negotiations over a new five-year contract, has been one of the rare highlights of United’s troubled campaign. His first half strike cancelled out Shkodran Mustafi’s opening goal and was his seventh in 11 games.

Mourinho is hopeful Martial will be fit to start against Fulham on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the United manager praised the dropped Paul Pogba for his 15-minute cameo against Arsenal.

“I think Paul came on and gave a good contribution and brought freshness and power and different qualities to the attacking players,” he said.

Mourinho also believes United have unearthed a gem in right back Diogo Dalot, who made his first Premier League start in the absence of the suspended Ashley Young.

“The kid Diogo is fantastic,” he added. “Gary Neville must be thinking Manchester United has a right back for 10 years. A very good right back for 10 years.”
