Manchester United team news: Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard could return against Liverpool

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful that Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial will both recover in time to play for Manchester United against Liverpool on Sunday.

Last week, Solskjaer suggested that the pair could be sidelined for up to three weeks after suffering muscle injuries against Paris Saint-Germain.

Martial picked up a groin problem in the Champions League last-16 defeat, while Lingard was substituted with a hamstring problem.

Both missed Monday’s 2-0 FA Cup win at Chelsea but could be in line for a surprise return on Sunday, though Martial is more likely to come back than Lingard.

“We’re looking OK,” Solskjaer said at his pre-match press conference on Friday. “They’ve got to get through these two sessions but have been doing some recovery work.

“Anthony’s was a different muscle. We think he might be ready and hope Jesse will.

“Every single player has the attributes to give us something and the way we played against Chelsea shows we can cope without them as well.”

Aside from Martial and Lingard, United have a relatively clean bill of health and Solskjaer is able to call upon the majority of his first-team squad.

Matteo Darmian (knock) and Antonio Valencia (muscle) injury are unlikely to feature, while Marcos Rojo is a long-term absentee.
