Anthony Joshua to train in America after choosing third coach in 16 months

Anthony Joshua has officially split with Robert Garcia as the Brit prepares to work with another new coach for his next fight.

Former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua, 33, partnered with Garcia after failing to win back his unified titles against Oleksandr Usyk in August. 'AJ' parted ways with longtime trainer Rob McCracken after first losing to Usyk in September of last year and linked up with Garcia for the rematch.

In his quest to get back in the winning column for the first time in over two years, 'AJ' has ditched Garcia after just one fight and will work with a new coach in America. Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the news but refused to reveal the new trainer, insisting that he wants to let 'AJ' make the announcement in his own time.

"I know who the new trainer is, it's quite a personal thing really," Hearn said on the DAZN Boxing Show . "I always like AJ and any fighter to come out and announce that with his team. I speak a lot because I do a lot of interviews, but I'll speak on his fights and stuff like that. He is going to train in America and he'll start that camp in the next week, so you guys will get the news soon.

"AJ is his own man and something like that is for him to confirm once he is happy to confirm it. April 1 is the targeted date [for his return] in London, so we're almost ready and he is excited. I'm happy with the trainer, I'm happy with anybody that makes AJ feels comfortable, motivated and excited."

Joshua was recently been spotted talking to American coaches Virgil Hunter and Derrick James during his search for a new coach. Hearn thinks that training stateside will be hugely beneficial for 'AJ' as he won't get recognised in public as much as he would in the UK.

"The problem is with him being in the UK is he can't breathe, when he goes to America people still know who he is but it's just a different world. Can you imagine that AJ where he is going to be training, can go for a walk and go and sit in a coffee shop with some friends," Hearn added.

"That is an impossibility in the UK, it's just a pressure cooker. The problem is because he's that role model, he'll never turn down a photo or conversation. You don't realise how much that is going to drain you when you're doing two or three sessions a day as well. I think this move is going to be really good for him and you're going to see a reinvigorated Anthony Joshua in April."
