Anthony Joshua takes aim at Fury and Wilder as he promises to unify division

Anthony Joshua has vowed to unify the heavyweight division next year.

Joshua has held the IBF title since 2016 and the WBA (Super) title since 2017, adding the WBO strap to his collection after beating Joseph Parker in March 2018.

The only championship belt out his grasp is the WBC championship, currently held by Deontay Wilder who will put his title on the line against Tyson Fury in December.

Joshua and Wilder’s respective camps were in prolonged talks over a title unification bout between the two undefeated heavyweights throughout the summer, but occasionally tense negotiations failed to deliver an agreement.

Instead, a showdown with Fury was agreed.

After defeating mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin in dominant fashion in September, Joshua has his pick of potential bouts with the WBC keen for the winner of Wilder vs Fury to fight Joshua.

The 2012 Olympic champion has now reaffirmed those plans, declaring on social media: “Unified the heavyweight division twice in 22 fights. Watch me become undisputed heavyweight champion in 2019."

Joshua is scheduled to fight at Wembley again on April 13 – the perfect setting for another unification fight.

The possibility of a mandatory defence of his WBO crown remains, however. Currently sat number two in the WBO heavyweight rankings is Jamaican-born Londoner Dillian Whyte – who Joshua defeated in 2015.
