Anthony Joshua's new opponent to be named next week after Jarrell Miller failed test

Anthony Joshua's new opponent will be announced next week with three heavyweights heading the queue for a shot at the world champion.

Joshua is searching for a new dance partner for his American debut at Madison Square Garden on June 1 after Jarrell Miller failed a drugs test.

The self-styled ‘Big Baby’ tested positive for a banned substance and has been refused a licence to fight by the New York authorities.

Miller vehemently denies cheating but will now miss out on a $5million pay day.

Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn expects to make several offers in the coming days with Luis Ortiz, Adam Kownacki and Michael Hunter leading the race.

Ortiz, whose only defeat came against world champion Deontay Wilder , has been on holiday and may struggle to be ready while Kownacki appears to have ruled himself out.

That leaves Hunter whose is also promoted by Hearn and is already preparing for a fight in Maryland in May.

Hearn said: "Fighting in America for the first time, it should either be an American or someone known to the American public.

"Ortiz, Kownacki and Hunter are definitely in the mix; Ortiz's manager said they don't have enough time but we're speaking to him.

"Outside of Wilder and Tyson Fury I don't think there is a heavyweight we haven't had a conversation with.

Anthony Joshua vs Jarrell Miller officially off as American is refused licence

"There are a lot of people coming in today [Friday] and tomorrow to try to do a deal and we want to announce an opponent next week."

Miller, who previously failed a test in 2014, will appeal the decision not to grant him a licence

He said: "I am absolutely devastated upon hearing the news my boxing licence has been revoked and I will be vigorously appealing this decision.

"I have NEVER knowingly taken any banned substance and when I found out the news I was totally shocked.

"My team and I stand for integrity, decency and honesty and together we will stand to fight this with everything we have."
