Anthony Joshua given advice by Frank Bruno ahead of Andy Ruiz Jr rematch

Frank Bruno has called on Anthony Joshua to follow in the footsteps of three ring legends and win back his world titles.

Joshua was dethroned as heavyweight world champion by chubby underdog Andy Ruiz Jr in June but has the chance to exact immediate revenge in December.

And Bruno, who won a world title at the fourth attempt in 1995, wants his countryman to replicate the feats of Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali in winning, losing and winning back their belts.

He said: "Lennox Lewis was a legend, so were Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali, but they're all gone now, this is a new time for these guys to set out their legacy.

"Everyone saw Ruiz and thought he looked like a Tellytubby and then had a bet on what round Joshua would knock him out in.

"But you can't underestimate anyone. He's a seasoned professional, he's sparred in America and been in with good fighters; he's got a lot of experience.

"It won't be an easy fight and I just hope he beats him. Joshua has to be on point when he goes back in with him because I think he underestimated him last time."

Joshua will bid to win back his three belts in the Saudi Arabia desert despite having the option of challenging Ruiz in Cardiff.

The former champion and his promoter Eddie Hearn have come under fierce criticism over their choice of venue due to the country's human rights record and its escalating conflict with Iran.

And Bruno warned Joshua the new surroundings could play into Ruiz's hands.

"It's a huge challenge with the different time schedules," he added. "You've got to go here, there and everywhere which messes your training about.

"But that's the territory that comes with being in a different league."
