Anthony Joshua calls on Pulev and Wilder to step aside for Tyson Fury unification fight

Anthony Joshua has called for Kubrat Pulev and Deontay Wilder to step aside and allow a world heavyweight title unification clash with Tyson Fury after the coronavirus pandemic.

Joshua’s next fight is due to be against Pulev in a title defence that was scheduled for the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer, but has been put on hold because of the virus outbreak.

Fury, meanwhile, is set to fight Wilder for a third time after the American activated a rematch clause despite being comprehensively beaten in the second meeting between the pair in February. That bout, too, is suspended indefinitely.

Between them, the British pair hold all of the major heavyweight belts, and many fans are desperate to see an unprecedented unification fight, potentially at Wembley Stadium, sooner rather than later.

"It would be amazing to tell Pulev I think you need to step aside, to tell Deontay Wilder there is bigger fish to fry in the UK right now,” Joshua told Sky Sports.

"What it will prove, me and him fighting, will be that there will be one dominant figure in the heavyweight division who will have all four of the belts.

"That fight needs to happen sooner rather than later because there will never be a time like this again."
