Anthony Hopkins has shared his candid views on actors while being interviewed by Brad Pitt.
The actor, 81, sat down with his Meet Joe Black andLegends of the Fall co-star for a lengthy chat for Interview magazine ahead of the release of his new Netflix film The Two Popes, when he called those in the acting profession “stupid”.
He said: “People ask me questions about present situations in life, and I say, ‘I don’t know, I’m just an actor. I don’t have any opinions. Actors are pretty stupid. My opinion is not worth anything. There’s no controversy for me, so don’t engage me in it, because I’m not going to participate’.”
Hopkins also revealed that he is “not a great fan of going to [see] movies anymore,” but told Pitt he did see him in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
“I’m not great at going to see the green screen films,” he said. ”I’ve been in a few of them and they’re fun, but they don’t grab me. I’m a bit too old for that.”
Hopkins and Pitt are both in the awards race for their respective films, with Pitt emerging as a favourite in the Best Supporting Actor category after being named as part of the 2019 National Board of Review winners earlier this week.
Adam Sandler was named the winner in the Best Actor category, which is usually a good indicator of who will be nominated at the Golden Globes and Oscars.
The Two Popes, in which Hopkins stars opposite Jonathan Pryce as Pope Benedict XVI, will be available to stream on Netflix on 20 December. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is released on DVD and Blu-ray on 9 December.
