Anthony Hopkins is absolutely loving his time in Wales as he posts pictures of his stay in homeland

Welsh acting legend Sir Anthony Hopkins has been back in the land of his fathers - and he has been absolutely loving it.

Sir Anthony, aged 83, grew up in Margam, and has always kept a strong affection for Wales after going on to have huge success in acting, including the portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in the film The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won an Academy Award for best actor.

He now lives in Malibu, but has been back in Wales this month and has been posting his journeys to his 2.8 million followers on Instagram. His trips have included visiting his old school, Cowbridge Grammar School.

He also posted a picture of him in Wales alongside pictures with him and his parents from 1942 and 1947, with the caption: "You can take the boy out of Wales, but you cannot take Wales out of the boy."

In another post, the Hollywood actor has shared a photograph of himself taken near a derelict former abbey which has prompted some of his followers to ask whether it is Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire, or St David’s, Pembrokeshire or Strata Florida, Ystrad Meurig with words: “Trees, brooks and books . . . Back home in Wales” and added a Welsh Dragon flag and a red heart.

He even missed becoming the oldest recipient of a Best Actor Bafta for his role of elderly man struggling with dementia in the upcoming film The Father , because he was doing some painting at his hotel in Wales.

Admitting later he didn't even know he'd won the coveted title and assumed the sudden cheers from the room next door was because there was a football match on TV.
