Unmissable show?
Game Of Thrones. How did I feel about the shock ending of last season? Well, like any show, it’s become part of writing, it increases the stakes. So I welcome it. Sometimes, there are characters that you really don’t want to go, that you adore, but you have to have repercussions, otherwise the ride isn’t as exciting.
Mastermind specialist subject?
I’d probably say something like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but ultimately I’d be rubbish! When I encounter fans who talk about specific moments in Buffy, I actually have no real recollection of one episode to the next.
Earliest TV memory?
The Adventures Of Rin Tin Tin. It was about a German shepherd dog who worked for the cavalry in the US, and his friend Rusty was this little boy who wore a hat pinned up at the front. As far as I was concerned I was Rusty. When I used to go to playschool, the lady who ran it said: “It’s fun that Anthony comes to school dressed up as his favourite character, but it would be lovely to meet Anthony once!” It might have been the earliest indication that I wanted to be an actor.
Pitch us a TV show…
I pitched an idea to Joss Whedon, when he was talking about a series for Giles in Buffy, about him becoming a ghost hunter. A friend of ours is a medium and she told us some fantastic stories about stuff that she’s encountered which I’d love to use. The only thing is that people are always shy of admitting [that they believe in ghosts]. In the end they say there’s no such thing as ghosts. As far as I’m concerned it’s all completely real; there is a spirit world. We have the spirit of a little girl and her nanny in our house. The little girl is a benevolent spirit, though there were times when we first came to the house and were doing building stuff that was upsetting the equilibrium of the house, she was unhappy for a while, until we told her that we weren’t doing anything bad and “hang in there, you’ll like what we do”.
