Anthony Gordon 'wanted' by Scotland boss Steve Clarke

Scotland boss Steve Clarke "wants" Newcastle star Anthony Gordon to switch allegiances from England.

The 22-year-old was born in Liverpool but qualifies through his grandparents and he is the latest Toon player to catch the attention of the national team coach after interest was previously expressed about Ashley Barnes and youngster Tino Livramento.

Elliot Anderson was even on the squad for the last camp but pulled out through injury.

Gordon has represented England at various youth levels and was awarded Player of the Tournament last summer when the Three Lions won the European Under 21 Championships.

The Daily Record states that "Clarke and John Carver are realistic enough to know that even with Scotland’s improved standing on the international stage, the odds are against Gordon turning his back on England."

However, he has yet to earn a call-up from Gareth Southgate which has sparked fresh interest.

Meanwhile, Jota could be set for a second chance in Saudi Arabia with Al Ittihad with Nuno Espirito Santo's reportedly set to take over.

The former Wolves and Tottenham boss was last week sacked after the Saudi Pro League champions went five games without a win.

Ex-Celtic star Jota was frozen out under the Portuguese gaffer though. Due to squad restrictions in relation to the league's rules on foreign players, the 24-year-old was omitted from Al Ittihad's player pool for domestic games. It means until January Jota will only be able to feature in AFC Champions League matches.

But with the winter transfer window only a matter of weeks away now, the timing of the new manager's arrival could present Jota with the chance to impress.

With now, the timing of the new manager's arrival could present Jota with the chance to impress.

Fabrizio Romano claims the new Al Ittihad manager will be Marcelo Gallardo.

He wrote on X: "Marcelo Gallardo will sign as new Al Ittihad manager on contract valid until June 2025. It will also include an option to extend for further 18 months, until June 2027."
