Anthony Elanga set to sign Manchester United contract just nine months after last deal

Anthony Elanga is set to sign a new long-term deal with Manchester United.

The Swedish forward only signed his latest contract with the club nine months ago but is set to be rewarded with updated terms after an impressive calendar year.

Elanga, 19, has featured five times for the senior side since his breakthrough, and interim manager Ralf Rangnick is understood to be a fond admirer.

The teenage forward featured from the bench in Ragnick's first match in charge of the club against Crystal Palace and was an unused substitute against Norwich last weekend. He also started the Champions League dead-rubber against BSC Young Boys last week.

He netted two goals across three friendly fixtures during pre-season but saw his opportunities cut short after injury ruled him out of the final pre-season match against Everton.

Almost half of the sides in the Championship showed an interest in signing Elanga on loan at some stage this past summer, but former manager Ole Gunnar Solskajer was keen to keep him at the club where he could learn from senior strikers such as Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Elanga joined United when he was just 12 years old from Swedish side Malmo and has worked his way up through the youth ranks to his current role on the fringes of the first team.

He was named the Jimmy Murphy Youth Team Player of the Year award last year and made his first-team debut against Leicester back in May before netting against Wolves on the final day of the Premier League season a week later.
