Anthony Elanga and Zidane Iqbal impress as Manchester United U23s snatch late win against Brighton

Manchester United's youngsters snatched a hugely impressive victory against Brighton in the Premier League 2 after an injury time winner from substitute Zidane Iqbal at Leigh Sports Village.

United named a strong team from the start once again with all of Dean Henderson, Phil Jones, Shola Shoretire and Anthony Elanga starting the game.

It was an even game for most of the first-half, until United were awarded a penalty when Elanga was brought down inside the box, The Swedish forward dusted himself off to blast the ball into the top corner to hand the Reds the 1-0 lead at the break.

The second half was tougher and Brighton were the better side, pressing well and forcing United to go long to striker Joe Hugill but he was struggling to hold the ball up and it meant Neil Wood's side were under pressure for much of the half.

That pressure told as Lorent Tolaj equalised for the Seagulls just after the hour mark. United made two late changes bringing on Charlie McNeill and Zidane Iqbal for Shoretire and Hugill and the substitutions paid off as after a bit of pinball in the box, Iqbal unleashed a low shot from the edge into the bottom corner to seal all three points for the Reds.

It was the Under-23s' first league win of the season and lifts them into ninth place with five games played.
