Anthony Davis says he intentionally missed free throw to ratchet up drama at end of All-Star game

Anthony Davis added to the already-high drama of the 2020 All-Star game, which used the so-called “Elam ending” to deliver a thrilling finale in which Team LeBron won on a free throw from The Brow that got his squad to the pre-determined 157 points needed to claim victory.

Davis (a Chicago native playing in his hometown) said in the postgame interview that he told his teammates he was going to miss his first free throw on purpose before — hopefully — hitting the second one to clinch the win. Although the fact that the game ended on a free throw, it was still an extremely dramatic end to a game that normally doesn’t provide those kind of thrills.

In hindsight, it worked spectacularly. But what if it backfired? Lucky for Davis — who’s shooting a career-high 85.3 percent from the line — that didn’t happen.
