Anthony Davis reaffirms he will play center for Lakers if necessary

Anthony Davis has been telling everyone who will listen this summer that he doesn’t love playing center but is willing to hold down the five if he’s asked to do so for the betterment of the Los Angeles Lakers. Davis once again told the same thing to those who asked him about his positional preference at a launch party for NBA 2K20 on Thursday night in Los Angeles.

Davis said (via Silver Screen and Roll):

That’s something that we’re going to discuss. Obviously if I have to, I’m willing to do it. But my preferred position is that I like to be a four.

Davis’ preference for playing the power forward spot as opposed to center was a driving force behind the Lakers’ willingness to sign Dwight Howard to play center after DeMarcus Cousins tore his ACL in August. It also helped Howard’s cause that he was asked specifically about guarding centers like Joel Embiid. And Davis refuses to back down from his stance.

Playing Davis at the power forward spot rather than a more physical center position could be a form of load management that does not take him off the court.

Davis is the cover athlete for NBA 2K20.
