Anthony Davis on playing with LeBron: Teams have to ‘pick their poison’

Anthony Davis, LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers have approached the first week of training camp and their first preseason game with a seriousness uncommon for the exhibition portion of the season. Some of that is likely due to the fact that both LeBron and AD were forced to watch the playoffs from the couch last season, with both of their teams becoming mockeries before the season’s end. But nobody is laughing after their dominant half of basketball on Saturday in their 123-101 preseason win over the Golden State Warriors.

Davis was asked about what it was like to play with LeBron James and he illustrated that their two-man game will be quite a problem for opposing defenses.

“It’s tough to cover. You’ve got a guy like him going downhill and a guy like me who’s rolling, who’s a lob threat — you’ve got to pick your poison. You know he’s getting to his strong hand, he’s in the paint and then you got me rolling behind, so either he’s going to go finish, pass or a lob, especially when it’s a clear like that. It’s a tough play to guard.”

Three of LeBron’s 8 assists in Saturday’s preseason game came on passes to Davis. LeBron distributed the ball all over the floor, but having a steady source of points in Davis could make for a career season for him when it comes to dishing out assists.
