Anthony Davis doesn’t want to discuss 2020 free agency

Anthony Davis is a free agent at the end of next season and he doesn’t have any interest in talking about it. After requesting a trade out of New Orleans in the middle of last season, Davis believes he has something special with his current team and doesn’t want to discuss the future in order to not sacrifice his present-day chance with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis told reporters:

I just want to focus on this year. Coming here, the Lakers have welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like this was home, but at the same time it’s about what we can do this year. We have a special team, a special unit, a special coaching staff and we want to do whatever we can to focus on this year and try to come out victorious.

While the situation with Davis is slightly precarious, the fact that he was able to get a trade to his desired destination probably increases the likelihood that he ends up staying in L.A. But if the last year has taught us anything when it comes to Davis, it’s that whichever team has him must win if they are going to keep him around long term.
