Anthony Davis claims his shirt wasn’t trolling the Pelicans because he doesn’t dress himself

Anthony Davis caused quite the stir when he rolled up to the Pelicans’ 2018-19 season finale on Tuesday wearing a “That’s all folks!” T-shirt.

Davis, of course, demanded a trade earlier in the season, and the Pelicans opted to keep the All-Star big man on roster (while tanking the Lakers’ chemistry). Still, Tuesday’s game was expected to be Davis’ last time on the New Orleans bench.

His shirt couldn’t have been a coincidence.

Well, according to Davis, he couldn’t have been taking a shot at the Pelicans or New Orleans because he doesn’t dress himself. Someone apparently chooses clothing for Davis to wear, and he puts on said clothing — no questions asked. That was at least his explanation on Wednesday.

He said that he has no control over what is chosen for him to wear.

Admittedly, I have no firsthand experience with the wardrobe dynamics of being an NBA player. I like to think that Russell Westbrook has a dedicated team of people who find him crazy things to wear, but something tells me that Davis does have control over what he wears. At least to some degree.

If someone handed him a shirt that he absolutely hated, he could tell the Shirt-Chooser Person (that’s the official job title that I just made up) to choose a new shirt. That’s how free will works.

Davis should just own up to the shirt’s messaging. Or tie it into Space Jam 2. I don’t know — anything besides what he said. Because that excuse seemed, uh, strange.
