Anthony Davis and LeBron James will not play in Friday’s preseason opener

The Los Angeles Lakers will be back inside the Staples Center to play an NBA basketball game later this evening against the Los Angeles Clippers. However, since Friday night is the first game of the preseason and the Lakers are already dealing with a historically short turnaround between seasons, L.A. will rest their two superstars, Anthony Davis and LeBron James, in the preseason opener.

Davis and James put together one of the best playoff runs that the league has ever seen in the NBA bubble, with both players carrying a major load and doing an excellent job on both sides of the ball. The Lakers face off against the Clippers, who had a memorable bubble for less impressive reasons, such as blowing a 3-1 lead in the second round to the Denver Nuggets.

It will be the first basketball game Staples Center has hosted since the season shutdown earlier in the year so it will be very interesting to see how the new health and safety protocols will change the game experience.
