Anthony Davis agrees to five-year, $190 million deal with Lakers

Following yesterday’s surprising news that LeBron James was signing an extension with the Lakers that would keep him with the team through the 2022-23 season, the Lakers got another commitment that may be a little surprising in terms of the length of the deal. Everyone expected Anthony Davis to come back to the Lakers, but few expected him to agree to a five-year deal, which is exactly what he will do this week, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

According to Woj, Davis has an early termination option going into the fifth year of the deal, which will be for the 2024-25 season. So while LeBron sealed his commitment to the Lakers through 2023, Davis did him at least one better, locking himself into a Lakers uniform through at least 2024.

With the signing of Davis to a long-term deal, the James extension, and the moves made by Rob Pelinka to strengthen their roster, the Lakers have unequivocally won the offseason after winning a championship, putting them in prime position to win for several years to come.
