Anthony Barry staying away from Chelsea as former Everton trainee pursued by Bayern Munich

Former Everton trainee Anthony Barry will step back from his duties at Chelsea as newly-appointed Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel looks to complete a swoop for his one-time colleague.

Tuchel, who served as manager at Stamford Bridge from January 2021 to September 2022 and won the Champions League, was appointed as Julian Nagelsmann's successor at Bayern Munich on Friday and has identified the highly-rated Barry as someone he wants to add to his coaching staff in Bavaria.

As of Tuesday, the Bundesliga champions had made an official compensation offer to the West Londoners to free the 46-year-old Liverpudlian from his duties at Chelsea. However, according to the Telegraph, the offer falls "well short" of the Stamford Bridge outfit's valuation.

The report adds that while both clubs look to come to some kind of financial agreement for Barry, the coach will stay away from Chelsea's Cobham training ground and Stamford Bridge.

Speaking at his unveiling on Friday, Tuchel outlined his hopes of securing a swoop for Barry, who progressed through the Goodison Park ranks as a trainee in the early 2000s, saying: "My coaching staff wasn't prepared either, so a big thank you to their families for their flexibility.

"Arno Michels and Zsolt Löw, who have been working with me for over ten years, will be there. We're hoping to add Anthony Barry, who is currently at Chelsea.”

Barry was linked with a move back to Goodison Park in the summer, this time as a coach, as former Everton boss Frank Lampard was linked with a reunion with the Liverpudlian. He has also held roles at the Republic of Ireland and Belgium national teams in recent years.
