Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has admitted that he has committed the cardinal sin of not chomping down on a democracy sausage on election day.
The PM cast his vote at Marrickville West Public School in his electorate of Grayndler earlier this afternoon, but was too busy campaigning to enjoy a delicious sausage.
In an interview with 2GB in Sydney on Saturday, Albanese said he “would’ve loved to” enjoy a sausage but ran out of time talking to the media.
”There are these things called journalists, and … there were like 80 of them, I think at Marrickville West Public School, where I voted,” he said.
“So it’s all too chaotic, so I’ve missed out. I haven’t had lunch. It’s a crisis.”

Honestly, good for him because amid the ongoing cost of living crisis, Australians across the country have complained about the rising cost of the democracy sausage.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton tried to get his own democracy sausage at Albany Creek State School, but unfortunately the local canteen had already sold out — which he called a “great sign”.
As for his plans for the rest of the night, Albanese isn’t too stressed about the results and is settling for a “long night”.
“There’s no point worrying about it. The votes are in the box. The counts will take place,” he said.
”Last time around in 2022 I cooked dinner. I cooked some pasta, and there were a few people at my home in Marrickville there, and most of them couldn’t eat, but my son, Nathan, I and Penny Wong had my pasta.
“Everyone else was too nervous as the results came in, but there’s nothing you can do about it.”
If ABC chief election analyst Antony Green is to be believed (and he usually is), Albanese will be able to get a good (or bad) night’s sleep by 10pm.
