Antero Henrique eyed for Newcastle transfer chief role as Saudi owners line up man who brought Mbappe to Paris

The new owners of Newcastle United are reportedly lining up Antero Henrique to be the club's new sporting director.

A Saudi Arabian investment fund completed its controversial takeover of the Magpies last week as Mike Ashley finally sold up after 14 years.

The future of manager Steve Bruce is hugely uncertain, with the English Premier League side likely to make a chance in the dugout.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is among those who have been touted for the role, with Amanda Staveley believed to be a big fan as a Liverpool supporter.

The Saudis will look to entirely reshape the club behind the scenes, as well as investing in infrastructure, and Footmercato reports that one upstairs appointment has already been lined up.

The website states that former Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Antero Henrique has been contacted at taking over as transfer guru on Tyneside.

The 53-year-old won praise for his work at Porto, but has been out of work since leaving the Ligue 1 giants at the end of the 2018-19 season.

Henrique is credited with bringing Kylian Mbappé to Paris, as well as unearthing several future superstars during his time in Portugal.

He brought the likes of Falcao, James Rodriguez, Alex Sandro, and Pepe to Porto before selling them on for huge profits.
