Ant 'missing in action' as Dec is interviewed about Saturday Night Takeaway finale

Ant was mysteriously 'missing in action' as best friend Dec appeared on radio on Friday morning to talk about the Saturday Night Takeaway finale this weekend.

Ant and Dec were both set to chat to Dermot O'Leary on The X Factor host's Radio 2 show ahead of tomorrow's final show of the series, but listeners were left confused when only Dec appeared.

It's Dec and Dec," Dermot joked.

"Where is he?"

Dec laughed: "Who knows Dermot, who knows?" Dermot asked if Ant was still sleeping as they had been unable to get hold of him, to which Dec laughed: "Wouldn't be the first time, Dermot."

He added: "I think it's technicals, let's be honest, we're all getting used to Zoom and WhatsApp calling and video calling, none of us know what we're doing, do we?"

Dermot quizzed Dec on how he and Ant were coping with the various coronavirus-enforced changes to Saturday Night Takeaway this year, including the scrapping of its big Florida finale, which was due to take place at Disney World tomorrow; the show going live without a studio audience for the first time in its history and the lads presenting last week's show from their living rooms.

Addressing the latter, Dec said: "It was the week before last we were there, we said we're going to try to continue to bring the show to everyone as long as we're able and allowed, and it just got to the point we couldn't continue bringing that amount of crew into the studio and me and Ant stand next to each other and we just couldn't do it.

"We pre-recorded the last two episodes and then thought, wouldn't it be great if we did it from our living rooms, so we bought two new mobile phones and did it."

Ant did eventually show up, joking: "What are you on about, Dermot? I've been sat here waiting for you," before talking about working from home, saying: "It looks dead easy but there's a lot more that goes into it and you're trying to choose the best corner of your house to show off, you don't want to show too much but want it to look good on the telly."

Earlier this week Ant and Dec revealed they are releasing a book called Once Upon A Tyne to mark 30 years in showbusiness.
